Haven’t raced a 10K since 6/2010, so a PR was inevitable. Truthfully speaking, Saturday was a bit of a disappointment. I expected to race this distance right around my most recent 8K pace (7:01 min/mi). Unfortunately, that was not the case.
Granted, it was warm out, humid and sunny. Plus, I’m not in the best shape at the moment, considering I just returned from a 5 day bender in Cancun. As far as I’m concerned those are all just excuses. Truth of the matter, Saturday’s race was a reality check. Moving forward, I plan to recommit to training for the Chicago Marathon and crushing a few smaller races along the way.

Hopefully, I’ll get my shit together for the Terrapin 5K on Thursday.
Runners and bikers, odds are excellent that you’ve already heard of this thing called the “lakefront path” — and know that as beautiful as it is, summer finds much of it choked with strollers and slow-moving sightseers. Here are 10 of the Chicago area’s best alternative paths for running, biking or both.
